Watching Thomas Week 3
The senior rushed for a state record 518 yards, scored seven times and tallied 42 points.
Those numbers inched him closer to second place in the state record book in each of those three categories.
Thomas has rushed for 5,527 career yards, which is now third best in state history. He is 485 yards shy of tying the second place mark set by Bloomfield's Andrew Pinnock (6,012).
Thomas has scored 80 career touchdowns, which is fourth best in state history.
Thomas has tallied 543 career points, which is third best in state history. He is just nine points shy of tying the second place mark.
No. 6 New Canaan was stunned by St. Joseph 35-27.
Bunnell edged No. 9 Masuk 16-8.
No. 3 Shelton knocked off No. 10 Fairfield Prep 26-21.
As a result of those games, the poll kind of takes on a new look this week. The Top 5 remain the same as last week but the second five is a bit different.
Did New Canaan, Masuk and Fairfield Prep earn enough votes to keep them in the poll?
Or did such teams as Hand, Seymour, Bunnell, Maloney or Ledyard make the move up? I will tell you that one of those teams jumped into the poll this week.
See the complete poll in Tuesday's Register.

St. Joe's honors Gonillo
That gesture is a tribute to popular News 12 reporter Bill Gonillo, who passed away suddenly last week at the age of 44 due to complications from diabetes.
"Over the years I got to be friends with him," St. Joseph coach Joe Della Vecchia said. "He covered a lot of our games. It was a shock. What he did for high school sports, we thought we should do something. All the kids knew who he was. All the kids looked forward to him coming to the games and them trying to get on T.V."
